Reach Partners with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on RHD Secondary Prevention Research Project

Rural Ugandan Village. Reach is delighted to be part of the newly funded AHA Strategically Focused Research Network (SFRN) on Health Technologies and Innovation. Four research teams from across the United States will form the SFRN and work on developing breakthrough technology solutions to improve health outcomes related to heart and brain health.

A Message for Our Community on COVID-19

Due to the spread of the Coronavirus, this is a hugely challenging time for everyone, including the countries where we work.We recognise that rheumatic heart disease patients are among the highest risk for COVID-19 complications, and that in many places health services for rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease prevention and management will be disrupted.

Inaugural Meeting of the WHO EMRO Regional Expert Network on Rheumatic Heart Disease

Reach, in partnership with the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (WHO EMRO) co-hosted the inaugural meeting of the Regional Expert Network (REN) on Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in Amman, Jordan from December 16th to 17th 2019.

Reach Team Visits Montes Claros, Brazil

Two Reach representatives, Dr Sophie La Vincente and Jessica Abrams, traveled to Montes Claros to meet with the team there who have been training health agents and nurses on a patient education tool entitled “Introduction to Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease”. Following on from a pilot phase of health team training and their use of the flipchart with the local community, Sophie and Jessica spent time conducting focus group discussions to receive feedback from the health agents and nurses.

Our Patient and Community Education Flipcharts

Reach has developed three patient and community education flipcharts designed to enable health workers to communicate with their community about rheumatic fever (RF)/ rheumatic heart disease (RHD).The first, Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease, is an introductory flipchart, aimed at patients who are newly diagnosed with RF or RHD. It outlines the key information that patients, and their families need to know about managing the disease. It also includes a small section for women of reproductive age with RF/RHD.
